The feast of Baba Marta in the Bulgarian traditions is a symbol of spring and brings a wish for health and fertility at the beginning of the new cycle in nature.
Every year on March 1, Bulgarians give each other martenitsas - intertwined threads, most often red and white of various shapes - for health and happiness. Bulgarians put martenitsas on their clothes or wrists and wish them health and happiness with the words "Happy Baba Marta" .
